The Delhi government has announced a major educational reform to be implemented from the academic year 2025-26. This reform requires the compulsory introduction of at least one English medium section in every class of every government school, reported PTI.

This decision is a response to the ongoing demand from parents who want their children to have the option to study in English medium. The initiative aims to better prepare students for higher education in science, technology, and global careers in the future.

Admission to these English medium sections will be based on the students’ interest and ability, ensuring that only those genuinely inclined and capable of studying in this medium are selected, the report added.

In a circular released on Tuesday, heads of all government schools were instructed to implement the directive, continuing the instructions issued in 2014 and 2018. The circular stated that at least one section in every class should operate as an English medium section and that all subjects except regional languages must be taught in English in these designated sections.

Schools will be provided with suitable textbooks and educational materials to support quality English medium education. These materials will be prepared according to the standards approved by the Delhi Government.

To ensure effective implementation, schools must record this information in their records and on government portals including the UDISE portal. Government officials will conduct periodic inspections to verify compliance with the guidelines.
