The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam will begin on September 12 with new measures such as a one-shift exam, centres within 100 km, and stronger security using updated technology.
SSC CGL 2025 Tier 1 exam will begin from September 12 for 14,582 vacancies.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam on September 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18,19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26. The exam will be conducted in computer-based mode. The test will have objective-type multiple-choice questions from four sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Except for the English section, all questions will be available in both English and Hindi.
This recruitment drive aims to fill 14,582 Group B and Group C posts in various ministries, departments, and government organisations. Out of the total posts, 6,183 are for UR, 2,167 for SC, 1,088 for ST, 3,721 for OBC, and 1,423 for EWS candidates. The registration process was conducted from June 9 to July 4, 2025.
New Measures To Ensure Fair, Smooth Exam Process
In past years, candidates faced issues such as technical glitches, Aadhaar verification delays, and being allotted faraway test centres. To address these issues, new measures will be implemented. SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan told Navbharat Times that the exam process has been restructured for smoother and fairer conduct.
One-Shift Exam For All And Centres Within 100 km
From this year, the CGL exam will be conducted in a single shift, instead of multiple shifts. This step ensures that all candidates face the same set of questions, eliminating concerns over varying difficulty levels across different sessions.
To make travel easier, exam centres will now be allotted within 100 km of candidates’ addresses. At present, about 80% of aspirants get nearby centres, and the commission aims to increase this to over 90% in the coming exams.

Stronger Security With New Technology
Highlighting exam security, the SSC Chairman said that the commission has begun closely monitoring systems. Since CBT exams are conducted at private centres, irregularities and even external interference have been reported in the past.
To counter this, new monitoring technologies are being deployed. Most earlier problems were linked to outdated computers and poor networks at certain centres. Now, only centres with reliable hardware and systems compatible with SSC’s application will be used. The entire process will also be re-audited before the CGL exam.
